new deck

In the earlier part of this month, I bought a new deck of tarot cards to use as writing prompts. I learned about this activity from an article written by Architta Mitra for Clash Media. I pull one card and I write a micro-story about it. I have a hard time finding tarot card decks I really connect with because most of them are Euro-centric. Most of the figurines have pale skin and blond hair or red hair and blue eyes and such. I settled on The Illuminated Tarot by Caitlin Keegan because I liked the images on the cards and I liked the vibrant colors of the deck. I also liked that the deck seems to have more animal figures than human figures. I like that I’m writing a lot of little stories about plants and animalia. I’m just beginning to realize their intrinsic nature. That nature is intrinsic. Today I pulled the 7 of Spades and wrote a story about two horses, one yellow and one brown. They willingly dive into a cenote at the end of the story. This makes me wonder how I can play with time and geography in my writing more. Horses and cenotes may seem anachronistic, but they don’t have to be. They can belong in the same time space, since they continue to exist in the earthly realm.
